About Me
Growing up in Sheffield I was a member of Vivien Pike’s Cantores Novae choir and the Yorkshire Youth Orchestra conducted by John Price-Jones, with whom I toured nationally and internationally. I also won multiple categories in the Sheffield based David Clover Singing Competition.
Having achieved ABRSM Grade 8 Distinction in both flute and singing, I went on to study music at Durham University, where I performed both as a soloist and as part of a number of university societies and other local organisations.
I also have a Licentiate Diploma in Flute Performance from Trinity College London with distinction and a further master’s degree in music composition with distinction from Durham – following which I was commissioned to compose the music for Hullaballoo Theatre Company’s production of Macbeth.
My other great love is teaching. After qualifying as a teacher, I enjoyed working as a classroom teacher and music coordinator producing a whole school music curriculum for one of Sheffield’s largest primary schools and taking responsibility for numerous successful choirs, concerts, and productions.
AMH Music
Music lessons are a thoroughly enjoyable creative outlet that can build confidence, provide a sense of achievement, and even improve academic performance. I have taught private students for over fifteen years and as both a qualified musician and a qualified teacher draw on a variety of techniques and a wide knowledge-base to meet the needs of all learners. I am very proud of all my students, several of whom have achieved ABRSM Grade 8 distinctions, music college & university places, music scholarships, and even leading roles on the West End.
Since leaving full time classroom teaching, I have enjoyed other musical roles including supporting music in schools on a freelance basis and working as a vocal coach at theatre arts schools. Highlights have included preparing children for the professional touring show of Joseph at the Sheffield Lyceum and Chesterfield Winding Wheel, West End showcases at Her Majesty’s and Shaftsbury theatres, performances at Disneyland Paris, and the main stage at the Sheffield Christmas Lights Switch On.
I am currently the Musical Director of the highly successful Lodge Moor Children’s Choir who have enjoyed performing on BBC Radio Sheffield, at Sheffield Arena, alongside Yorkshire Wind Orchestra, and at the prestigious Royal Northern College of Music.
